Game Rules

Overview

Spy Game is a social deduction game for 3-15 players. Most players receive the same secret word, but one or more players are spies who don't know the word and must figure it out without revealing themselves.

Setup

  1. Choose the number of players (3-15)
  2. Choose the number of spies (1-3)
  3. Select one or more word categories
  4. Set the round duration
  5. Pass the phone to each player to see their role

Gameplay

  1. Players take turns asking each other questions about the secret word
  2. Questions should be vague enough that the spy can't easily guess the word
  3. Answers should prove knowledge of the word without being too obvious
  4. The spy tries to figure out the word while blending in
  5. Other players try to identify who the spy is

Winning

  • Civilians win if they correctly identify the spy
  • Spy wins if they guess the word correctly
  • Spy wins if they avoid being caught until time runs out

Tips

  • Ask questions that only someone who knows the word could answer properly
  • Be careful not to make your answers too specific
  • Watch other players' reactions to questions
  • If you're the spy, try to blend in by giving vague but believable answers

Surprise Mode

We recommend not reading how it works - just try it! You might not even notice the twist at first.

In Surprise Mode, unexpected scenarios may occur:

  • Everyone might be a spy (and no one knows the word!)
  • There might be no spies at all (everyone knows the word)
  • Everyone except one player might be a spy

With 3+ players, these special scenarios are rare (about 5% each). With only 2 players, all scenarios have equal probability.
